Individual & Group Therapy for Substance Abuse & Addiction
Addiction is a mental illness that doesn’t discriminate. Prescott House is here to provide each one of our clients with individualized care. When you enter treatment, you’ll go through different types of therapies to help you find the root of your addiction as well as how to prevent relapse in the future. The journey towards recovery is about self-discovery and changing old behaviors. Through individual and group therapy, you’ll be educated about the disease of addiction, your personal history with substance abuse, and solutions on how to live an incredible new life.
Within the first week of treatment, you’ll meet with both a doctor and psychiatrist who will evaluate your mental and physical needs. The doctor is there to help you with any withdrawal symptoms or ailments you may have resulting from your drinking or using. One of the primary sources of addiction for many individuals is the presence of mental illness. A psychiatrist will do a thorough evaluation to see if you potentially suffer from any type of mental disorders like anxiety, depression, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. These illnesses must be treated separately from your addiction to help with your recovery.
At Prescott House, you’ll be assigned a personal therapist as well. The personal therapist will meet you for an hour per week as well as any other time you may need someone to talk to. Individual therapy is there to provide you with a safe place where you can talk about your life in order to work through any specific issues you may have. While some moments in therapy may seem uncomfortable, it’s important to examine unresolved issues to understand what may be fueling your addiction.
Many suffering from addiction feel as though they are alone in their issues. This is why group therapy and the 12-step community meetings you’ll be attending are so important. You’ll hear stories from others going through the recovery process and be able to rely on one another for support. At 12-step meetings in the community, you’ll be surrounded by others who have been working on their recovery as well. Those who attend 12-step meetings go so they can share their experience, strength, and hope. This can show you that you don’t have to go back to your old way of living ever again.
Prescott House also provides a variety of other group treatment activities like expressive arts, yoga, equine therapy, as well as nutrition groups. Each session you attend is meant to help you build a stronger foundation of recovery so you have the best chances of staying sober when you discharge. You’ll learn different methods to handle your triggers, stress, and issues faced in everyday life.
Prescott House is an all-male facility where you can bond with others in treatment and build a support group. With the tools for recovery that you gain from Prescott House, you’ll be able to leave treatment with everything you need to begin rebuilding your life. Remember that there are millions of people around the world who were once stuck in the same cycle of addiction. But, through recovery and sobriety, they are able to find a sense of hope and go on to live amazing lives.
